SiteGround vs Hostinger (2026)

Both sell cheap first-year WordPress hosting. The difference shows up at renewal, in what each plan includes, and in how much you have to prepay.

Prices and specs checked on the providers' own pages on November 1, 2026. This page is research-based: we have not yet run our own hands-on speed or support tests. See our methodology.

Verdict: Choose Hostinger if the lowest total cost over the next few years is the priority and you're happy to prepay. Choose SiteGround if you want published renewal rates, staging and on-demand backups on a mid-tier plan, and strong built-in tooling, and you can live with a higher renewal.

Price: the first bill vs the third bill

The headline numbers are close. The real difference is the term. Hostinger's lowest rate needs 48 months up front, which locks in a low monthly rate for four years. SiteGround's promo covers 12 months, then renews at the rates it publishes in its knowledge base. Over four years on entry plans, Hostinger is usually far cheaper in total. Over one year, they're similar, and SiteGround's lower prepay is less cash out of pocket today.

Do the arithmetic for your own term: (promo monthly × promo months) + (renewal monthly × remaining months). Then add about 2.5% if you pay in a non-USD currency with a card that charges FX fees.

Features that actually matter

Backups and staging

If a plugin update breaks your site, you want a one-click restore and a staging copy to test on. SiteGround includes daily backups on every plan and staging from GrowBig. Hostinger's entry Premium plan has weekly backups; daily backups and staging start at Business. For any site that earns money, compare SiteGround GrowBig with Hostinger Business, not the entry plans.

Performance

Both run LiteSpeed or Nginx-based stacks with server caching, and both are fast enough for small and medium sites when cached. We haven't run our own load tests yet (see our methodology); treat any review that claims a decisive winner from one speed test with caution. Independent benchmarks such as Review Signal are a better guide than single-page tests.

Tooling and ease of use

SiteGround uses its own Site Tools panel and the SiteGround Optimizer plugin. Hostinger uses hPanel, with an AI site builder and WordPress auto-installer. Both are beginner-friendly. Developers will appreciate SiteGround's Git and SSH on higher tiers; Hostinger offers SSH and Git on Business and up.

Data centres

SiteGround runs 11 data centres on Google Cloud: four in the US (Ashburn, Council Bluffs, Dallas, Los Angeles), five in Europe (London, Madrid, Eemshaven, Frankfurt, Paris), plus Singapore and Sydney. Hostinger's web and cloud plans can be hosted in the US (Phoenix, Boston, Asheville), Europe (France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, UK), India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brazil, and its Hostinger Mail mailboxes are stored separately in France and Germany. SiteGround covers Australia and Singapore; Hostinger covers India, Southeast Asia and Brazil. Neither has a Canadian region; Canadian readers should see best WordPress hosting in Canada.
